September 22, 2020 (Seoul, Korea) – Dulwich College Seoul saw students return to classrooms for the 2020-21 school year under the leadership of new Head of College Gudmundur Hegner Jonsson.

Mr. Jonsson, who is the third Head of College of the international school, has demonstrated leadership in education in Europe, Asia, the Middle East, and China for over 20 years. Prior to joining Dulwich College Seoul, he served as Head of the United World College Red Cross Nordic in Norway. Mr. Jonsson majored in archaeology at University College London and the University of Sheffield in the UK and has also trained as a bass vocalist at the Royal Academy of Music, London. His educational philosophy centres on democracy and citizenship, where student voice and empowerment play critical roles.

I have been thoroughly impressed by the care and professionalism that colleagues have invested in creating a world class educational environment for our young people. We are also fortunate in being part of a wider family of Dulwich Schools and Colleges as this gives us an opportunity to draw upon leading educational expertise from around the world,” remarked Mr. Jonsson at the school’s re-opening.

“The developing situation with the Covid 19 pandemic presents many challenges to our community and we have worked hard to create an environment that maximises the safety and learning opportunities for our 700 students, whether it be in the classroom or online. We have developed considerable expertise in blended learning and have been pleased to see overwhelmingly positive feedback from parents and students to date.”

He also said, “Dulwich College Seoul is a global community where students from different nationalities and cultural backgrounds learn, exchange and grow together. The relatively small size of our student body also allows us to nurture and support every individual making the College feel very warm and welcoming. The College feels like home”.

Dulwich College is one of the UK’s oldest independent schools, founded in South London as a boys’ school in 1619. Dulwich College International (DCI) was established to bring the Dulwich education to students around the world and is now one of the fastest growing UK independent school networks.
