[Chamber News] In a significant development underscoring the strategic importance of critical minerals and rare earth elements (REE) in today’s technology-driven world, Mr Ross Gregory, the Chairman of AustCham Korea, participated in the Darwin Dialogue in Australia from 17 to 19 April.

This annual forum, hosted by the Australian Strategic Policy Institute (ASPI), fosters international cooperation and discussion around critical minerals essential for modern technologies, including renewable energy systems and electronics.

The Darwin Dialogue served as a crucial platform for leaders from academia, industry, and government to collaborate and steer the conversation on the sustainable and secure supply of critical minerals and REE. This year’s dialogue is particularly timely, as the demand for these resources surges amidst a global push towards green technologies.

Mr Gregory’s participation highlights AustCham Korea’s commitment to bridging Australian and Korean interests in the critical minerals sector. South Korea, recognised as a major technology hub, relies heavily on imports of these essential materials used in manufacturing high-tech products such as semiconductors and batteries. Mr Gregory’s insights are particularly valuable, considering his extensive background in international business and economic relations between Australia and Korea.

Throughout the conference, attendees engaged with key decision-makers in discussing challenges such as resource security and environmental sustainability in mining practices. The dialogue also covered innovative mineral extraction and processing technologies, ensuring that the supply chains are efficient, environmentally benign, and socially responsible.

As nations worldwide navigate the complexities of mineral security and economic development, the Chamber seeks to continue its engagements at forums such as the Darwin Dialogue to ensure deeper, more strategic collaboration between Australia and Korea in the resources sector.
