AustCham Korea Gold Sponsor Meat & Livestock Australia Brings Eco-Friendly Packaging to E-mart

On June 17, 2022, Daesang Holdings Haesung Provision, in collaboration with E-mart, introduced eight products of True Aussie Beef special cuts using FSC-certified packaging at all E-mart branches. Customers who visit E-mart will now be able to buy a total of eight True Aussie Beef special cuts sold in eco-friendly packaging, including boneless short rib, outside skirt, hanging tender, chuck flap tail, flap meat, rib finger meat, sirloin, and tenderloin. In addition, if customers accumulate Shinsegae points, they can get a 20% discount on True Aussie Beef products.

The FSC-certified paper trays used in this event are designed to replace the more commonly-used plastic trays. This collaboration is the first move to change trays in this industry. FSC certification, created by the Forest Stewardship Council (FSC), a non-profit organization, is an environmentally and socially reliable international certification system. This is only given to companies that meet 10 strictly set standards, and sustainably produce their wood and paper products.

By replacing plastic trays with eco-friendly paper trays, E-mart is expecting to reduce plastic usage by approximately 10 tons per month and a total of 120 tons per year (based on 2021 sales statistics). As a result, customers will be able to reduce the use of buried and incinerated household waste, and increase the use of recycled products.

Lim Seung-hyun, E-mart Purchasing Officer said, “E-mart is taking the lead in ‘good consumption’ that considers the environment.” He further added, “We hope to protect the taste of our products, health of our customers and the environment with True Aussie Beef sold in eco-friendly trays.”

Charlie Ko, Manager of Meat & Livestock Australia’s Korean office, said, “It’s very meaningful for us to be able to protect the environment through this collaboration with E-mart. Meat & Livestock Australia will continue to work on sustainability and protecting the environment.”

“We hope customers will also be able to recycle more through this opportunity,” he added.

Congratulations to AustCham Korea Gold Sponsor, Meat & Livestock Australia, on expanding their policy of sustainability in the Australian red meat industry to the Korean market.
