AustCham Korea Hosts Breakfast Discussion for AKBC Hydrogen and Critical Minerals Delegation

On Thursday morning, June 9, 2022, members and special guests of AustCham Korea welcomed the Australia-Korea Business Council (AKBC) hydrogen and critical minerals delegation with a breakfast discussion at the Grand Hyatt Seoul.

Co-hosted by AustCham Korea Chairman, Mr Ross Gregory, and AKBC Chairman, the Hon. Simon Crean, the event was attended by senior business leaders and Australian government representatives working at the forefront of Australia-Korea business engagement, including Mr Bill Paterson PSM, former Ambassador to the Republic of Korea.

Expertly moderated by Mr Gregory, the breakfast discussion resembled a G20 session, with each of the 40 odd participants providing notes through a microphone, which enabled an open dialogue around experiences and challenges in doing business with Korea. The attendees further discussed their views on the opportunities presented by the change in government in both Australia and Korea, and how the Australian business community can best position itself to be Korea’s partner of choice as they both aim to decarbonise.

“I see this joint breakfast discussion with AustCham Korea and the AKBC being the first of many future collaborations between the two organisations. With the breakfast discussion serving as an opportunity for industry leaders and experts to connect and collaborate, an overwhelming conclusion was that this will be a watershed year for the two countries to accelerate bilateral business engagement across numerous industries and that there are exciting times ahead for the relationship. With in-person gatherings becoming the norm once more, it was enriching to be able to see each other and hold a discussion in the same room once again,” commented Mr Gregory.

The consensus of the attendees was the future for Australia and Korea in the hydrogen and critical minerals field is bright.

AustCham Korea thanks the Australia-Korea Business Council for bringing its delegation to the other side of the pond and looks forward to working together closely in the future.
