AustCham Korea Triumphs with First Taste of Australia

On Thursday, May 26, 2022, the Australian Chamber of Commerce in Korea (AustCham Korea) hosted theirĀ first major networking event of 2022, Taste of Australia.

Supported by Premium Sponsors Australian Made, Investment NSW and Woolworths, and Event Sponsors the Australian Embassy in the Republic of Korea, South Australian Government, Trade and Investment Queensland and Millennium Hilton Seoul, the event showcased premium Australian food and beverage with an assortment of spreads, ranging from buffet-style to straight-off-the-BBQ.Ā

Being the first large-scale event since restrictions in South Korea have lifted, Taste of Australia gave 250-plus attendees the chance to re-connect, and for some, the chance to meet face-to-face for the first time. Senior government representatives, business leaders and the extended community mingled in the Oak Room and gardens of the Millennium Hilton Seoul, enjoying the cool May evening with a side of fresh Aussie produce.Ā

Julie Quinn, Senior Trade and Investment Commissioner for South Korea and Mongolia, commented, ā€œTaste of Australia lived up to its name as an event to showcase great Australian food and beverages while bringing together Australian, Korean and friends of Australia guests. Chefs at the Millennium Hilton are to be congratulated for their creativity in creating Australian-themed dishes using Australian ingredients.ā€

ā€œThanks to Cochlear for providing the opportunity to contribute to two very important charities, the Salvation Army andĀ Caritas Cheongju that support hearing impaired members of the community,ā€ she further mentioned, highlighting the charity raffle portion of the evening, which was a crowd favourite and AustCham Korea staple.

Ross Gregory, Chairman of AustCham Korea, furthered the positive feedback on the event, stating, ā€œThe success of Taste of Australia is not only testament to the hard work of the AustCham Secretariat, but shows the eagerness of all in the Australia-Korea community to re-connect. You could sense the hunger to make genuine connections in the crowd, and with more such events lined up in AustChamā€™s calendar, Iā€™m looking forward to seeing the future success and connections brought about by the Chamber for the broader community.ā€Ā

Taste of Australia was scheduled for 2022 as a two-part event, with the second part set to take place on a bigger scale in the latter half of the year.
