AustCham Korea Hosts Saetgang Eco Conservation Project

On Friday, May 6, and Saturday, May 7, AustCham Korea hosted a special eco-friendly Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) event, ‘Yeouido Hangang Eco Conservation Project’. Over two days, nearly 70 volunteers from all over Seoul combined forces to assist with the upkeep of the Saetgang Ecological Park, located by the Han River in Yeouido, Seoul. The Saetgang Center works to remove ecological disturbing species and revitalizing native flora in the Saetgang forest.

On Friday, volunteers from various corporations in Seoul banded together for some challenging, but rewarding, work unrooting and replanting saetral trees. These native trees are resistant to pollution, retain their leaves all year round, and play an important role in removing dust and noise, hence being the tree of choice for the area.

On Saturday, volunteers consisting of AustCham Korea members and their families spent the day out in the sun, enjoying nature and removing the weeds and vegetation detrimental to the growth of native flora in the Saetgang forest.

On both days, the groups were able to relax afterwards with a quick foot-dip in the park’s new fresh water stream, along with crisp beers and pizza on the rooftop of the Saetgang Eco Center.

This eco-conservation activity was part of AustCham Korea’s broader CSR efforts, with the eco focus reflecting the Chamber’s ongoing commitment to promoting sustainability in 2022 and beyond. A special thanks to Millennium Hilton Seoul and Shin & Kim for sponsoring the project, along with all personal donations made on the day.
