AustCham Korea Welcomes Dr Alexandra Siddall, Deputy Head of Mission, Australian Embassy, Seoul.

The Chamber is pleased to welcome Dr Alexandra Siddall as the new Deputy Head of Mission (DHOM) at the Australian Embassy to the Republic of Korea.

Dr Siddall commenced her role as DHOM in February 2021.

A senior career diplomat and foreign policy professional, Dr Siddall’s clear-sighted understanding of Australia’s Indo-Pacific interests has been shaped by previous diplomatic postings to Tokyo (2012-2016) and Moscow (2004-2007), a three-year secondment to the Office of National Assessments (2007-2010), and significant experience in Canberra and overseas contributing to four of Australia’s most important bilateral relationships – the United States, China, South Korea and Japan.

Immediately prior to her posting, Dr Siddall was Director of the US Political & Strategic Section within the US and Indo Pacific Strategy Division of the Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade (2018-2020).  In that role she guided the Australia-US bilateral relationship to focus on shared Indo-Pacific equities.

In Tokyo, Dr Siddall designed and project-managed the successful multi-million dollar ‘Year of Australia in Japan’ economic diplomacy campaign, establishing a cohesive and collaborative ‘Team Australia’ approach to public affairs.

Dr Siddall was Director, Korean Peninsula and Mongolia Section (2010-2011), where she directed Australia’s relations with the Republic of Korea, the Democratic People’s Republic of Korea and Mongolia.

She holds a PhD in International Relations from the University of Queensland focused on international security of the Asia-Pacific, specifically US-China relations. She speaks Japanese, French and Russian, and is attempting to learn Korean.
