AustCham Korea Supports Future Generations and Remembers the Battle of Gapyeong.

On Thursday, 24 April, AustCham Korea honoured the 74th anniversary of the Battle of Gapyeong by presenting scholarships to local students at a commemorative ceremony held at the Australian Memorial in Gapyeong. Fought from 23 to 25 April 1951, the battle remains a defining moment in the shared history of Australia, New Zealand, and Korea, symbolising bravery, sacrifice, and enduring friendship.

Representing its members, AustCham Korea proudly donated scholarships to middle and high school students in Gapyeong, reinforcing the Chamber’s commitment to supporting education and community ties. The initiative was made possible through the generous support of AustCham’s Platinum Members—Eastpoint Partners, Milbank, and POSCO Holdings—and Gold Members including Investment NSW, Macquarie Group, Pepper Savings Bank, and Woodside Energy. Additional contributions were also made by John Walker AM, Macquarie Asset Management Korea Limited, and Hanwha Defence International.

The scholarships reflect AustCham Korea’s belief that investing in future generations is a powerful way to honour the legacy of those who served. For Australians, New Zealanders, and Koreans alike, the Battle of Gapyeong remains a powerful reminder of the shared sacrifices made to defend freedom and peace.

AustCham Korea is proud to stand alongside the local community in remembrance and support, carrying forward the spirit and legacy of the Battle of Gapyeong.
