AustCham Korea Participates in the Foreign-Invested Enterprise Intellectual Property Roundtable

On 18 February 2025, Sang Ho (Arnold) Lee, Deputy Director of AustCham Korea, took part in the Foreign-Invested Enterprise Intellectual Property Roundtable in Seoul. Organised by the Korean Intellectual Property Office (KIPO), the Korea Trade Promotion Investment Agency(KOTRA), and the Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy (MOTIE), the event provided a key platform for foreign chambers of commerce, multinational corporations, and South Korean government agencies to engage in direct discussions on intellectual property (IP) policies and challenges.
Discussions focused on IP protection, patent disputes, and measures to combat counterfeit goods on online platforms—pressing issues for foreign businesses operating in Korea. Participants reaffirmed their commitment to Korea’s stable and competitive business environment, while underscoring the need for stronger enforcement mechanisms and enhanced international cooperation to safeguard IP rights.
KIPO Commissioner Kim Wan-gi emphasised the crucial role of intellectual property, stating, “IP is a key asset that safeguards foreign-invested enterprises’ innovation and strengthens their competitiveness, ensuring sustainable growth.” He further noted that Korea is working to support its appeal as a business hub by addressing foreign enterprises’ concerns and strengthening global collaboration on IP protection.
Through continued engagement with Korean policymakers, AustCham Korea will stand to advocate for its members and support greater trade and investment opportunities between Australia and Korea.
