AustCham Visit To Australian War Memorial in Gapyeong

On Thursday, October 15th, AustCham Korea joined the Australian Embassy Defense team in visiting Gapyeong to commemorate Australia’s role in the Korean War.

While the 69th anniversary commemoration of the Battle of Gapyeong was cancelled earlier this year, Australian and New Zealand representatives visited the two countries’ war memorials last week for a small ceremony.

Australian Defense Attache, Colonel Nick Bolton and his New Zealand counterpart, Colonel Donald Jones, each gave a short speech on the enduring significance of the Korean War for our nations, and the special importance that Gapyeong holds for many veterans.

The commemorative ceremony was attended by the Australian and New Zealand Defense Attaches, as well as AustCham Korea and ANZA Korea representatives. Following the war memorial visit, the AustCham team and Colonel Bolton paid a visit to Gapyeong High School to meet the 2020 Education Scholarship recipients.
