2017 Business Awards
Australian Chamber of Commerce in Korea

The Australian Chamber of Commerce in Korea hosted the annual AustCham Business Awards in conjunction with the Australia Day Celebration event on 26 January 2018 at JW Marriott Dongdaemun Square Seoul, Grand Ballroom.

This year’s AustCham Business Awards ceremony coincided with AustCham Korea’s 10 Year Anniversary, which provided a timely opportunity to look back on AustCham’s journey over the time and to recognize those who have made invaluable contributions to AustCham’s success in Korea.

His Excellency James Choi, Australian Ambassador to Republic of Korea, said “Australia Day in Seoul presents a timely opportunity to recognise both individuals and businesses that have contributed to bilateral business connections.” He added, “Australia and Korea recognise that open markets improve competitiveness, generate jobs and provide access to new ideas and innovations. The Korea-Australia Free Trade Agreement is an enduring commitment to these principles. KAFTA enables businesses to prosper, and today’s awards will showcase many examples of successful enterprises thriving in an open market.”

Graham Dodds, ExxonMobil Korea President and Lead Country Manager and Chair of AustCham Korea, said “it is great that Korean companies are also being recognized tonight for their excellence and partnerships with Australia. I am proud that AustCham Korea will be able to recognize Korean companies that worked with Australian companies to achieve joint business outcomes.”

AustCham Business Awards is an opportunity to celebrate and recognize exceptional companies and individuals that have contributed to the expanding Australia-Korea business relationship and longstanding friendship.

Australia Day event followed the AustCham Business Awards ceremony.  Australia Day is Australia’s national day. It is a day when Australians at home and abroad reflect on what it means to be Australian, and come together to celebrate Australian history, culture and diversity.

Australia Day event commenced with an opening speech from Kim Jung-Il, Director General of the FTA Policy Bureau at the Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy.  “Operation between Australia and South Korea on international affairs has reinforced our strong trade relationship, such as increased trade and investment opportunities, and creation of jobs,” said Kim. “It is mutually important for both countries to continue the cultural benefits that transpire from our bilateral trade relationship.“

Representatives from Australian companies and Korean companies attending the Australia Day event had an opportunity to network and share their stories, continuing to foster the bilateral relationship between Korea and Australia.
