IFM Investors‘ Chief Economist Dr Alex Joiner shares his take on Australia’s future as a ‘lucky country’, looking at ways to diversify the economy away from a deep-set reliance on the resources industry.
 
“It would be a positive for our economy to foster diversification from its import-export base towards large markets where our trading relationship has not been strong or has withered. These economies invariably don’t demand resources so, to achieve this, we would need to broaden our economic base”, Dr Joiner notes.
 
He further goes to discuss the potential for public and private sector collaboration, including the possibility of mobilising private capital to help by tapping into the large pool of superannuation savings.
